As people prepare for Thanksgiving, Knights of Columbus councils are conducting activities to serve people in need. For instance, the members of Fairview Council 4044 in Chicopee, Mass., will – for a 22nd year – hold a community Thanksgiving dinner expected to serve more than 3,800 people. The council provides meals to those in need, whether lacking in food or the company of friends and family. Donations are also given to facilities that serve the same purpose, as well as to people who are homebound. In Missouri, Father William Pezold Council in Cottleville, Mo., along with members of the community and local businesses, supports the No Hunger Holiday program with the goal of ensuring that families in need have the items necessary to prepare a Thanksgiving meal. It is expected that more than 2,000 families will receive food baskets through this program. Last year, more than 800 councils participated in the Order’s Food for Families program, donating nearly 2.4 million pounds of food and volunteering more than 292,000 hours in food drives for families in need.
This is so good to see other councils doing this program too. The Knights of Columbus of Council 85 in Westborough, MA also held this event in 2012.
